This a view of the kennels and bird flight pen. At Grouse Tale Shorthairs we are very proud that our facilities have been designed to maximize the amount of time we have to spend working the dogs as opposed to travelling and staking dogs to a chain gang. We raise quail, chukars and of course pigeons for training purposes. The kennels are very roomy and give client's dogs a good opportunity to stretch their legs and still be able to get out of the weather. Since the training field is directly behind the kennels it is very convenient to work a dog while the others in the kennel watch.

Here is a view looking into the bird flight pen. We feel that an adequate supply of birds is critical to producing top quality shorthair hunting companions. The mix of quail , chukars and pigeons also us to match the right bird to a particular dogs development. When we need strong flying pigeons to get a pup to hold on birds, they are readily available. Likewise when a dog has been introduced to guns and we are ready to teach retreiving, shooter pigeons are used. If the dogs are holding their birds we can use liberated quail and chukars to perfect the points. Bottom line, plenty of birds make a good bird dog.

Our training fields are located right behind the kennels and offer easy access to get the dogs working on birds. Over the years the land has been reclaimed into scrub grasses and windrows that provide excellent bird cover. Once we are confident that our trainees are performing well we have many other training locations that offer access to wild sharptails and grouse.
